A sound mind in a sound body is an age-old saying that will remain true forever. Learning for a professional qualification leads on to establish in the society. At the same time taking time off from the hectic curriculum pressures and investing time in co-curricular activities like sports adds quality to the students' present and future life. Recognizing this need to develop a healthy and all-round lifestyle, RGUHS has been at the forefront of promoting sports among the students. We have also been proactive in providing incentives to the sportsmen and women who excel in this field.
We have a systematic process of conducting sporting events with clock-like precision. The events unfold from college-level selections to various levels of selection and coaching processes leading on to inter-university meets at zonal and national levels. The sports persons who excel in the field are provided with incentives in the form of travel grant, cash prizes for winners, etc. We also have an annual sports meet, which is organised in different locations to give opportunity for every region of the state to get honours.
The largest feather in the cap is the successful organising of the 72nd, 75th & 80th All India Inter University Athletics Championship. This was the first instance where a health science university organised such a mega event, which saw the participation of athletes from more than 150 universities across the country.
The concept of involving students in the task of national service dates back to the times of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. The Mahatma suggested that the students should do 'something positive so that the life of the villagers might be raised to a higher material and moral level'. The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. NSS helps the students develop an appreciation to other people's point of view and also show consideration to other living beings.
The cardinal principle of the program is that it is organised by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in social service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of national development. In the context of Health Sciences University, social work blends with the theme of health. Health is a social issue and it will always remain integrated with society.
At RGUHS, NSS has 21500 volunteers under regular, and 10500 volunteers under special Camping program and 215 NSS units as per required norms.
